Intel to Launch New Laptop CPUs, Montevina Refresh Platform
Intel plans to launch several new processors for the Centrino 2 “Montevina” notebook platform before the end of this year, as well as the “Montevina Refresh” platform in April 2009, DigiTimes’ sources at laptop makers say.
The new CPUs for the current Montevina include the Core 2 Quad Q9600 and Core 2 Duo T9800, T9550, P9600, P8700, SP9600, SL9600 and SU9600, as well as the dual-core Celeron T1700 and T1600.

Intel Confirms 12 New Laptop CPUs
Intel has confirmed this week the release of 12 new laptop processors, including two quad core models.
Along with the Core 2 Extreme QX9300 and Q9100 quad core CPUs for high-performance and gaming laptops, the chip maker unveiled the new Core 2 chips, designed for use in thin-and-light and ultraportable notebooks.

Intel Core 2 Duo, Extreme CPUs for Montevina - Overview
Intel launched this week six Intel Core 2 “Penryn” 45-nanometer notebook processors for their new Centrino 2 mobile platform, codenamed “Montevina”.
The dual core CPUs include five Core 2 Duo chips, the P8400, P8600, P9500, T9400, and T9600, as well as the overclockable Core 2 Extreme X9100.
AMD CPU for Netbooks Coming by the End of 2008
DigiTimes reports that AMD has recently notified its partners it is developing a processor which will compete against Intel Atom and Via Nano CPUs in the low-cost PC market.
AMD’s new chips are expected to be launched by the end of 2008, while netbooks based on these CPUs will begin shipping in the first half of 2009, according to DigiTimes’ sources at PC makers.

AMD’s CPU for Netbooks Spotted
German website Eeepcnews.de published yesterday information on a new AMD processor, which is possibly designed for use in low-cost ultraportable laptops, also known as netbooks.
The leaked CPU is a 64-bit single core chip clocked at 1Ghz. It has a power consumption of 8W. The processor has 256KB of L2 cache and an integrated memory controller supporting DDR2-400 SODIMM memory.
AMD Turion 64 X2 (Ultra), Athlon, Sempron ‘Puma’ CPUs Overview
AMD’s website now lists the new Turion 64 X2, Sempron, and Athlon mobile processors, designed for use in the company’s latest notebook platform, codenamed “Puma“.
The chip maker offers three AMD Turion 64 X2 Ultra-branded CPUs: the ZM-80, ZM-82, and ZM-86, clocked at 2.1GHz, 2.2GHz, and 2.4GHz respectively. Another one “Puma” Turion is the 64 X2 RM-70 at 2GHz.

AMD today announced “Puma“, company’s new notebook platform. “Puma” features the latest Turion “Griffin” processors, chipsets, ATI Radeon Mobile GPUs, and wireless modules, as well as advanced power-saving and security features.
“The AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile processor includes top enhancements including AMD Independent Dynamic Core Technology, a new mobile-optimized memory controller, and power-optimized HyperTransport 3.0. The new mobile AMD 7-series chipset, AMD M780G and AMD SB700, features integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics and delivers support for Microsoft DirectX 10″, the chip maker says.
VIA Nano Processor Family Launched
VIA Technologies today announced that the new VIA Nano processor family, formerly known as “Isaiah”, is now available for OEMs and motherboard vendors, while systems featuring this CPU are expected to hit the market in Q3 2008.
“The VIA Nano processor family leverages Fujitsu’s advanced 65 nanometer process technology for enhanced power efficiency, and augments that with aggressive power and thermal management features within the compact 21mm x 21mm nanoBGA2 package for an idle power as low as 100mW (0.1W), extending the reach of power efficient green and silent PCs, thin and light notebooks and mini-notes around the world,” the press relase says.
Intel Delays Centrino 2 Montevina Laptop Platform
Intel delayed the launch of its Centrino 2 mobile platform, codenamed “Montevina”, from June to mid-July. In addition, some parts of “Montevina” won’t be released until early August, CRN reports.
The chip maker plans to release the new Centrino 2 processors and “discrete graphics chipsets” on July 14, according to Bill Kircos, head of Intel’s consumer and enterprise communications group.
Dual Core Intel Atom Coming in Q3
Intel plans to launch its first dual core version of the Atom processor in Q3 2008, Fudzilla reports.
“We scored some more details and many of them were quite easy to guess. The new dual core Atom will end up branded as the Atom 330 and just as the single core Atom 230, the dual core CPU will end up at 1.6GHZ,” the report says.
Five Intel Atom CPUs Launched
Intel Corporation today introduced the first five Intel Atom processors and Centrino Atom platform for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and embedded computing solutions.
The five Atom processors, codenamed “Silverthorne”, are the Z500 with 800MHz clock speed, Z510 at 1.1GHz, Z520 at 1.33GHz, Z530 at 1.6GHz, and Z540 at 1.86GHz. Power consumption of “Intel’s smallest and the world’s fastest chip under 3 watts” ranges from 0.65W to 2.4W, depending on model. All of the announced Atom CPUs have 512KB of L2 cache. The lower end z500 and z510 have a 400MHz front side bus, while the others feature a 533MHz FSB.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300: First Quad Core Laptop CPU Coming in 3Q
Intel is going to launch the world’s first quad core processor for laptops - the Core 2 Extreme QX9300 - in the third quarter this year, DigiTimes’ sources at motherboard makers say.
“The Core 2 Extreme QX9300 will be manufactured at 45nm and have a core frequency of 2.53GHz. The CPU will come in a socket P package and support FSB speeds up to 1066MHz. The chip will include 12MB L2 cache and have a maximum TDP of 45W,” DigiTimes writes.
